How Bad Can She Be?
17th July 2006
David R Williams
Shakra's interesting hatwear range continues. This season, he sports a Cuban work cap for all those days planning the revolution. Doesn't he look spiffy? It'll be all the rage... um... in the clothing catalogue I copied it out of from last month.
The 'Family Circle'-ish bit was originally scripted as a straight flashback panel, but since I draw children like newspaper comic strip characters anyway, I thought it might be fun to bastardiseFamily Circle's little ring of woe into some kind of horrible anti-comic. It helped that Mary had written such a nice, short exchange between the two girls that worked perfectly in that form. It's good to have the freedom to do this kind of thing, especially on a strip where I rushed the art a little more than I would have normally and wasn't entirely happy with the fixed camera on all these scenes.
DAVID'S DVD EASTER EGGS:
No, Shakra wasn't a girl scout either -- he's referring to his childhood stint as 'Scout' Finch in a stage adaptation of 'To Kill A Mockingbird'. His promising acting career was cut short when he went from being 'the cute kid' to 'the ugly kid', which was coincidentally the same time as the casting director bought a new pair of glasses.
