Again, no backgrounds. Same reason, really, in that a) there's hardly any free space behind the text and figures, and b) I don't really know what you'd find in a newspaper office.
The Smokestack is Milton Hoight's trash tabloid. This flashback is my equivalent of those episodes of 'Friends' where they do a flashback as an excuse to give the cast bad wigs and prosthetic noses and fatsuits. This is why Ormrod looks like a porno store customer and Halifax looks like an extra from 'Nathan Barley'. Holly doesn't do too badly: she's got her hair cut very short (shorter even than when we saw her in Russia in the 'In The Red' flashback) but aside from that she's relatively the same. The editor was going to be a very obvious rip-off of former 'Mirror' editor Piers Morgan, except I couldn't be bothered looking up pictures of him. Piers Morgan is a cunt. (Imagine the search engine hits now.)
This took less time than normal to do the artwork, since I didn't have to bother colouring the linework in: I did, however, colour and shade in full RGB colour, then greyscale the panels when I put them onto the finished framework. I can tell you that Ormrod's hair is dark orange and that I can only assume he now dyes his eyebrows, since they always look black.
Best bits: Friends-style bad wigs, Ormrod and Halifax's back-and-forth.
Worst bits: Lack of backgrounds, a couple of repeated panels.
