Computer Says No
7th August 2006
David R Williams
I should probably preface this by saying that I really love Something Positive, and I've always maintained Randy is one of the big inspirations that got this comic off the ground in the first place.
However, when Mary was plotting out this part of the story, before she even wrote the script, she realised that not only is 'Something Positive' the most perfect Sexual Health Clinic name ever, but also that we'd actually used the joke before, back on the first strip we both collaborated on together.
Clearly, the only intelligent thing we could do is have Randy work in the clinic as the put-upon receptionist. (Much like a receptionist, Randy is a high-calibre enough webcartoonist that he frequently gets yelled at by random strangers for perceived slights and by people who've missed the point entirely.)
So Mary wrote possibly the most angrily over-the-top character ever seen in this comic, while I went trawling the internets for pictures of Mister Milholland. Who looks different enough from his character that by the time I finished drawing him into my style, he's almost unrecognisable. Unless you've seen pictures of Randy in his beard years.
DAVID'S DVD EASTER EGGS:
