In The Red
21 March 2005
David R. Williams
Ah, sweet flashback, a writer's best friend. The Russian flashbacks here are all patterned after old Soviet propaganda posters, a sadly neglected art form of the twentieth century (though the Tate Modern has a cool exhibition of them on.)
I'm particularly happy with Holly all in red, on the three-quarter view. It's very nice. Every single panel on today's strip, by the way, looked a lot better before I cropped it. Every single one, cropped. Nothing vital lost, except a lot of time I spent on bits I didn't need to use.
Bad panel planning is to blame, mostly, and it's something I'll have to address in future. The last thing I need is a few hours lost every day on work that gets cropped.
Best bits: the first panel, the fourth panel.
Worst bitS: the panel layout, Halifax's unintentional resemblance to Daredevil's Matt Murdock.
