I completely take the blame for the last couple of strips being late late late. It takes a long time to put these things together, particularly when I'm inking with a brush and hand-drawing the backgrounds. I'm in a 'quality over quantity' mindset right now, and I'm working on trying to do them at this standard but with a faster turnaround time. I feel bad that Mary writes the scripts for these things and then has to wait five days to see it finished.

For anyone who doesn't read the decidedly mediocre webcomic Questionable Content (you may remember I wrote a lengthy rant attacking it about a month ago) then you might be interested in today's strip, as pointed out to me by my brother. I noticed something familiar about it, but couldn't quite put my finger on it, until, well... take a look:

If you want to check out the original strips, here's the Shit Happens one, dated Nov 28th 2005, and here's the Questionable Content one, dated Feb 23rd 2006.

I think perhaps Jacqui Jephs is sending me messages through his comic that he wants to kiss and make up with me. Too bad for his Easthampton liberal Massachusetts lifestyle that I don't go in for those backdoor shenanigans. He's away at a con this weekend, no doubt pining away for me. No, Jacqui! Ours is a forbidden love. Do not speak its name, else it may die.

No, of course I'm not serious about him stealing from me, you silly sods. It's quite clearly coincidence -- even a retarded chimp could tell that. If I seriously thought he'd plagiarised me I'd have to ignore the fact that I totally ripped the 'romantic denouement on rooftop at night' thing from 'Empire Records', and that was probably taken from somewhere else -- I just felt like writing this 'OMG JACQUI JEPHS STOLE FROM ME' thing to see how many people were stupid enough to actually take it seriously.
And anyway, jeez, it's not like I did something really bad like posted spoilers in the community. What the hell's up with that, guys? You can't assume everyone will read the comic before the community, and you're a prick if you do. Damn. What the fuck.
And y'know, while I did slag off Questionable Content a month or so ago, I'm forced to admit that I actually was really quite impressed with this latest one. It's not overwritten, there's no stupid robot, and it's undeniably rather sweet and altogether very human. I think I'll even read another couple, because if he keeps this up I might actually have to swallow my words. Or at least, some of them. I stand by most of my earlier criticisms still, even if everyone did spectacularly MISS THE FUCKING POINT by not understanding what 'hyperbole' is. The guy does five strips a week. That's pretty impressive, no matter what mistakes he might make along the way.
