Woooo. Marvel at the lo-tech flashbacks. I actually bothered to re-draw the scenes from previous strips, since I don't have the original art to rescan from over here (it's piled up in a drawer in England) and the only copy I have of the file is the finished one at 540 pixels wide, since the larger PotatoShop files for most of Year Zero got nicked along with my old desktop.
I even looked up the old palette colours for the strip and coloured them in that (it's most noticeable on Halifax's skintone if you compare early ones to recent ones) although then ended up doing sepia toning anyway. The font is the dreaded, horrible, Comic Sans, which I always tell people never ever to use on anything ever because it's the least professional looking font on Earth, but it's what I used to use during Year Zero, so it felt right to put it in those three panels.
I liked Mary's script for this comic, since she's started to use dialogue more sparingly (which I only started enforcing after I stopped writing for it, ha ha ha) and not only does it make reading the comic a lot punchier, but also frees me up to give the characters some acting workouts. The look on Holly's face in the last panel is priceless, even if in the other three panels she looks a bit off because I haven't drawn her in god knows how long.
Also, I just discovered why my filesizes have been so huge lately: the PNG compression algorithm in PotatoShop 7 is shit, and the one in PotatoShop CS (which I've just reinstalled on this desktop) is much nicer at getting files to compress to a smaller size without looking like shit.
