Midnight's Soliloquy, part three
(Dead Piro Halifax Day #7)
5 August 2005
David R Williams
Third and final part of this mini-arc is up. Fun fun. It's been a nice experiment in low-tech comicking (though the production after scanning is still better than what I was doing last year) as well as unconventional scripting. (For these scripts I wrote out all the captions but didn't do any panel descriptions, then took my cue for the actual panels from the captions I'd written. It's why some of the panels have rather random objects and viewpoints on them -- because there was nothing concrete in the caption for that panel that I could really use properly.)
Laurell's tormentors, as seen in panel four, all have names: in fact, Sean, the third person along, made an appearance in Mary's 'Whatever Happened to Midnight Soliloquy' comic at the end of last year. He was tanned then, but my biro shading has given him a somewhat Indian/Arab cast to his features. Midnight will be back, sometime, and in future arcs we'll probably see more of Eriq, Heather, Sean and Shannon. I have a great fondness for stories set in turbulent high school years, and as yet I've had very little chance to do anything of the sort in Shit Happens. I tend to default to stories set in pubs. If Mary weren't the co-writer on Shit Happens now I'd probably end up setting the whole thing in a pub just so I could draw one set of backgrounds and never have to draw any again after that.
Check back this Monday for (hopefully) the continuation of this year's story arc as Kali continues to probe into Halifax's past.
Oh, and don't forget that Blogathon is tomorrow and Mary's going to be blogging all day! You can sponsor her or just stop by to see what she's writing about. All proceeds go to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
