The Talented Mister Halifax, part two
30 March 2005
David R. Williams
It wasn't until I was drawing this strip that I realised how much of the script called for 'Halifax pulls a stupid face,' which I don't remember writing into the script, but apparently did. This is a strip that hung together much better in script form and where the jokes (yes, there were jokes) worked better as well.
In case you're wondering, a Mr. Nelson left the company after the sign had been made but before the letter got sent out to Halifax in the last strip. There's absolutely no unintentional discrepancy in the company's name. Honest.
The backgrounds are still getting better, but at the same time still have a way to go -- I thought of a couple of ideas today that might work out, so I'll try them soon and see how they go.
I had nothing but trouble with the last panel of today's comic. I had to re-do Holly's eyes three times after scanning for them to look like she wasn't retarded, and I had to change the entire shape of Halifax's head, rotate his glasses, move his nose and resize his mouth. It doesn't look like Halifax, but it looks a lot less like John Kerry now than it did.
Best bits: the CGI'd backgrounds; Halifax and Holly pimped up for work.
Worst bits: the last panel's art; the overall result not being quite what I hoped.
