Some facts conerning monkeys
14-12-04
As the banner above the strip testifies, today is Monkey Day. Like most right-minded people, I've long had an affection for monkeys, and the wonderful things they have brought to this world, this planet of the humans.
I also like drawing this kind of strip, at least, the pencilled parts. I like drawing them, but they take a very long time to edit when on the computer -- thanks to the pencil 'static' on the texture of the paper, which means you can't just cut and paste as easily as when you're scanning in pure black and white. But I like doing them. It's easier to do reconstructive 'surgery' on them in these -- Mary's mouth, for example, is really made from one of her eyes because the lipless version looked too masculine. In the same panel, I reconstructed my mouth from the open mouth of the other panels into the closed version. It's quite fun, but time-consuming.
And by the way, several of the things are true about that strip. Mary really did write a nigh-on thirty page religion paper. She really did go to sleep at gone two-thirty and needs to be leaving the house at half-seven to get to class on time at eight-thirty.
And we really did have an epic dispute over whether or not I would go and get her a piece of candy from the other room. Which makes me sound heartless and cruel for not doing so, but her reason wasn't that she was doing the paper, it was that she didn't want to go into the dark room where the chocolate bar was. We eventually settled on both going for a piece, which is rather redundant, but at least enabled us both to save face.
Next step: we unite George W. Bush and the abstract concept of terrorism by making them both get candy together. The good news is the candy has pretzel in it, so it will also be the last thing George does.
